Confessions of a computer store owner's wife
Good Afternoon and Greetings from RX Computers of Rochester!
As many of you know, the shop is bustling with activity at all hours of our 10 hour day. I know this, as I am Rob's wife, Lori. I hear the stories when Rob finally makes it home at night! You see, the poor guy can't fit an extra minute into his day to write on this blog, so you all have me, the wife. I will try to keep you entertained and enlightened, and hopefully you will all appreciate my side of things as I see them from the outside.
I have to thank our website designer, Scott Winters from Homestead Digital Design (www.homesteaddigitaldesign.com). He has amazing talent and is very patient with Rob and me, the slightly overbearing wife! If you're in the market for a new web design, check out his website and see for yourself just how talented he is!
In September 2005 Rob started working part time at a computer shop in Rochester. Over the next few months the owner of the shop convinced Rob that owning a computer shop was such a great adventure that he should buy this one. It's not a decision you make over breakfast on Sunday morning. This was a decision that took months to make. We crunched numbers, we paced a lot. Finally, in March 2006 (the 6th, I believe), the papers were signed, money changed hands, and RX Computers of Rochester came to life.
Our first year in business was a huge learning experience. From employing friends (not recommended), to finding and bringing on staff Bill, computer tech extraordinaire. We cleaned up the shop (which was a pigsty) and started building up a customer base. You see, my husband is one of the best men I know. He's honest, fair, and even tempered, and conducts his business with integrity. His customers saw that about him immediately, and started spreading the word that RX Computers of Rochester was a reputable business.
Through all of this I continue to work on the outside. We need health insurance, after all, and the rates offered to small businesses are embarrassing. I wear many hats for RX Computers of Rochester, though - Marketing Director, Graphic Designer, Therapist, Editor, Mediator, along with a slue of others (I wonder if I should add it all to my resume..... ). I get to see our business for what it strives to be, not what it is on a daily basis. For this I am grateful. You don't need me working on your computer, trust me on that one!
We continue to make improvements as we can to the shop, and hope that we are meeting everyone's expectations of us. Reasonable suggestions are always welcome!
I hope I haven't bored you to tears with my ramblings. I will try to get Rob to make an appearance on this blog occassionally, though I am not making any promises! You might just get stuck with his crazy wife...
Have a wonderful day!

Well said , and well written. Not boring by any means. I look forward to your next posting and thank you for sharing. That and thank you for the kind words about Homestead Digital Design. I believe as you do, that its is all about the word of mouth. That is still king in the marketing world. Cheers to it as well. Honesty, integrity, and customer satisfaction. The way business should, can and has to run in these new times. Nice to see it. In it for the long haul.
Scott
